What is the cps test?

The CPS test (Chicagoland Pre-School or Clarity Professional Standard) is a comprehensive standardized assessment used to help assess the academic and social development of preschool children. The CPS test is used to assess the cognitive, academic and social/emotional development of children from 3 to 5 years old. It can also be used for early identification of potential learning disabilities.

At the start of the testing process, a teacher or psychologist will meet with the child in a one-on-one setting and ask them a variety of questions related to their level of development. Questions asked will be tailored to the age group they are in, such as how many shapes they know, how good they are with basic number exercises and their ability to follow simple instructions. Based on their responses, this will give the educator an idea of their current cognitive level.

The next part of the test consists of four subtests which test skills in three areas; cognition, academics, and social/emotional assessment. The first subtest is Cognition which assesses a child's perception and understanding ability. This includes things like sorting shapes or objects according to size and color, or understanding simple directions and instructions.

The second subtest is Academic Ability which assesses a child's problem solving skills using different cognitive strategies as well as visual memory, reasoning skills, numerical operations, and their ability to identify letters in order correctly. The third subtest is Social/Emotional Assessment which focuses on self control emotions such as appropriate coping strategies for dealing with frustration, anger management techniques and being able to take responsibility for ones actions when questioned by an adult figure such as a parent or teacher.

Finally there is also an observation component where teachers/psychologists make note of certain behaviors such as participating in play activities without needing much guidance from adults or displaying an understanding of basic concepts like what month it is etcetera
